Tutorials

Here is a list of links to the tutorials for basic quilt block units. This will grow over time, but right now consists of 1 topic!

Half Square Triangle blocks

Cut 2 contrasting squares measuring the desired finished size + 7/8 inch. If I am making a 3" half square triangle block, I need to cut 3-7/8" squares. Each pair of squares yields 2 half square triangle blocks.

Place the purple and beige squares right sides together. On the wrong side of the beige 3-7/8" squares, draw a line from corner to corner.
Sew 1/4 inch from the drawn line using your 1/4 inch presser foot. If you don't have one, you can draw additional lines 1/4 inch away from the diagonal in both directions.
Sew 1/4 from the drawn line on the other side.
Cut the block in half on the drawn line. Press open towards the dark fabric. This will give you 2 half square triangle blocks.
